Nutritious summer foods - prepare your skin for the sun
Summer is the perfect season to detox. With hot temperatures outside, possibly increasing the risk of sweating, dehydration and dizziness, it is important to take our health seriously to fully enjoy the sunny months. We often forget how our daily habits can affect our body. Even the smallest actions can increase our energy, improve our skin texture, and build up our immunity (particularly throughout Covid). Here are some key foods that can help our vital organs eliminate toxins from our bodies and bring us life-long health benefits:
Watermelon
Watermelon contains plenty of nutrients. With high levels of lycopene, vitamin C, vitamin A, potassium, antioxidants and more, it will help get rid of toxins and reduce inflammation. In addition, its high-water content is hydrating, perfect for warm weather.
Lemon
Many people do not know that our bodies can become too acidic. Lemons can help balance our pH levels by making our bodies more alkaline. They cleanse kidneys and stimulate our liver, assisting in the process of eliminating toxins. As lemons are extremely sour, it is advised to squeeze a lemon into water, making them easier to ingest.
Cucumber
If you ever feel bored of drinking water on its own, try including a few slices of cucumber. They are great for summer detoxes as they assist the urinary and digestive systems through their delivery of antioxidants. Cucumbers also help with improving our skin, making it look healthier and brighter.
Coconut water
Coconut water helps maintain electrolyte stability in our bodies and is an exceptional way to keep us hydrated in hot weather. It is often referred as a ‘digestive booster’, helping cleanse our body.
Herbal tea
You may think that tea in hot weather is contradictory, but it has proven to regulate our body temperature which can help with extreme temperature resistance. In addition to being a fantastic draining tool with lots of nutrients, we are spoiled for choice with a wide the variety of tea flavours. Our favourite teas for cleansing include Chamomile tea, Hibiscus tea, Mint teas and Citrus teas.
These foods only represent a small portion of the beneficial foods you can try incorporating in your daily life. While many of them can make a difference in your body, it is important to remember that health is about balance, so each effort made towards detoxing shouldn’t be seen as a ‘miracle’ solution, but instead to support a consistent overall balanced and healthy lifestyle.
