WHY WE AVOID FABRIC SOFTENER

WHY WE AVOID FABRIC SOFTENER

When Belinda founded Bondi Wash it was her objective to create a full range of plant-based products for use in every room in your home. In doing this, she looks to help customers avoid products that are dangerous for our families, and harmful to our belongings. This is why we have decided not to include fabric softener in our range of laundry products.

Fabric softeners use quaternary ammonium compounds to make fabrics more plush and comfortable to touch. These chemical compounds, known as QUATS, are positively charged, which allows them to bind with negatively charged fibres to prevent static. QUATS also have the effect of making our fabrics less absorbent, and more flammable. Furthermore, they are known to trigger asthma attacks, and are thought to interfere with our reproductive systems.

Fabric softeners also contain phthalates. This is a family of chemical binding agents used to maintain artificial fragrances. Researchers have connected this family of chemicals to a host of health issues including asthma, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, neurodevelopmental disorders, type II diabetes, obesity, and reproductive issues in men.

At Bondi Wash, we believe it is possible to create effective products using ingredients that are safe for our families and for our environment. This is why we do not use sulphates, synthetic fragrance, petroleum distillates, PEGs, enzymes, optical brighteners, bleach, EDTA or quaternium in any of our laundry products. If you are interested in moving towards a safer alternative for washing your clothes, check out our full laundry range which includes our Laundry Wash, Delicate Wash, and new products launching soon.
